For the first time in over three months, I actually found time to idle at work. Strangely, just yesterday, I was up to my hair with tasks that require my urgent attention, and yet, this morning I came in and just sat staring at my monitor. Nothing much to do.
Well I suppose the first thing to do when one actually have time to idle is to clear all the backlog of tasks that had been pushed aside to make way for those higher prority ones and I did just that. By 2pm, I actually cleared everything off my backlog and am really idling now.
I even had time to go download some custom stuff for SIMS 3 and geeze still idling. >.>
I suppose I can actually go for a long lunch break today. I've been taking 30mins lunch break for the last few months and it'll be nice to be able to take my full hour-long lunch break. I suppose I could go find a nice place and enjoy a quiet coffee break, if I can find a quiet place today especially. Its friday plus the next monday's a public holiday - National Day and the schools are already like Zoo Opening Day, releasing all the 'scary' children out.
I had to endure a rather painful bus ride to work because it was full of screaming kids. Grrr. And I doubt I'm going to be able to find a quiet place to enjoy my lunch break, not if its going to be students everywhere.
Whining aside, I seemed to have been doing a good job with the project I've been given. The head of department sent me an email just 2 days ago to tell me to keep up the good work. And the project manager from UK sent me a IM last night to tell me that she enjoys working with me and thanked me for all the effort I'd put into the project. Of course, I'm thrilled with that.
I've been struggliing with my job since starting and I can't count the number of times my direct superior sighed at me and shook his head. His reaction was quite funny, well, sometimes. But this week, he said 'very good' when I showed him a report I did. So yeah, I'm definitely thrilled but while a pat on the shoulder is nice, I would love to see it changed into $$. Heh!
